M1/06 Orientation Week!
Moday 27th Feb, the day of mixed feelings; Excitement about orientation and dread about the first day of Sem 3. Going to Uni in the morning and seeing all the M1/06 fellows all dressed up gave me a feeling of deja vu. After all that planning, orientation week was finally here! I was in IMU much earlier than was required of me, considering the fact that lectures were scheduled to start at 1.30pm. I figured i could give out my signature to several groups in the mean time. I must admit that i had no idea what i was going to get them to do for my signature though. I had no plans beyond getting them to introduce themselves and hearing their group cheers! grrrr *annoyed at myself for a lack of creativity and a mean streak* But as it turned out, no one wanted my signature that day *sob sob* It seemed as if the juniors were intimidated and terrified of me, which they were apparently. It was fun watching the others bulling the juniors though.
Ice Breakers – Our troubles started early. The juniors obviously hadn’t realized the importance of punctuality. I had a go at group 13 for being the last group to turn up. (I’m sure Prish must’ve been really happy about this;-) She’s not a fan of the senior OOs). Ice breakers was FUN.. I got to use (and abuse) the hailer, not that i needed one! The juniors had no trouble hearing what i had to say with or without the hailer. The stink bombs we a little too "stinky" but i knew this, being one of the masterminds behind the production of the ammo. Some silly juniors did get crap in their eyes even after my repeated instructions to keep their eyes shut *sigh*. If they go blind its not my fault; they were adequately warned. Our main problem at the end was juniors not staying back to finish the cleaning up which resulted in the seniors having to do most of it. Mufee ended up getting injured too. Poor girl! I hope she'll be ok soon. Damn them juniors! And damn KK for being insensitive.
The hottest gossip in IMU on Tuesday was how awful Ice breakers was and how most of them were planning on skiving Treasure Hunt. Desperate measures had to be taken. After a core-committee discussion Fu Wen, KK and I decided to have a talk with the juniors the next day. I gave out my signature to the few groups who were actually brave enough to approach me.
Wednesday dawned; i had to be up early because we had to catch the juniors before they left the lecture hall after their briefings. I think we successfully managed to convince most of the juniors to attend treasure hunt. We were all hyped up in the evening; hoping against hope that nothing will go wrong during treasure hunt. We had our share of hiccups along the way. The rain for one thing had us thinking whether we should call off the hunt (would have been a crime if we had to do so considering how much work Prish and San Fui had to put in). The guys drinking at the Vista A station was just icing on our cake of troubles especially with Indra and the gang being there when they were specifically asked not to be there. *sigh* some guys just love breaking rules. It was a rather eventful treasure hunt. I'm sure it'll be an unforgettable experience to for most of the juniors.
I had to wake up super early on Thursday morning cos i had a clinic visit! And it had to be this week! *curse AAD for the timing!* The rest of thursday was rather mundane.
If the clinic visit on thursday was bad, CSU on friday morning was just awful! Waking up super early two days in a row and getting Htin Aung for CSU! I was hypoglycemic during the CSU session (which was an hour longer than it was supposed to be) and i thoght i'll pass out! I was so exhausted that all i wanted to do was sleep. I had second thoughts about going for Variety Nite. To put it lighty, its not my favourite event of the orientation (i dont fancy seeing guys dressed up as girls). I think the whole thing should be revised. I did, however, end up going. It was just crazy!
Telematch the next day was the best event so far for the juniors. They had an awesome time and so did we. I was disappointed with the abyssmal attendance but the juniors who did attend had a blast. We were hoping for better attendance for BBQ Nite but this was not to be. BBQ Nite as a whole was a disappointment. The only positive about this BBQ Nite was that there was more of a junior-senior interaction rather than the juniors being slaves.
I'm still in a state of denial. Didint think we could pull off the whole week but we did. I'm just glad its over now. Won't be getting myself involved in any orientation activity for a long time! LOL:D
