M1/06 Orientation - 22/02/2006 - 24/02/2006

The responsibility of continuing the tradition of "ragging" the juniors fell on the shoulders of Fu Wen, Krishma, David, Puvesh, Sue Ling and myself, a responsibility that we happily embraced at the time, believing in the common misconception that ragging juniors was supposed to provide unlimited pleasure for all seniors.
Organising this orientation was by no means fun. It was a lot of work! And i mean, A LOT! With unequal work distribution in the committee, some members had to work much harder than the others who hardly did any work and nor attended meetings.
Registration Day - Ms.May Kuan's call to confirm that i was to be Emcee for the day woke me up. I must admit that i was nervous. This was a big step from emceeing Diwali Nite. With the deanery and all the heads of staff in attendance, i had to make sure that i didnt make a fool of myself. With this in mind, i wisely decided to stick to the script that i wrote that morning without any attempt at being spontaneous. Luckily for me everything went as planned. Taking the juniors on the Tour of IMU with karishma was fun although i'm pretty sure she didnt enjoy the "karishma can't find her way around in a box" comment i made. That was a bit harsh but no apologies necessary since its Karishma after all:-)
Thrusday - The all important day for Mahes and me. I had doubts about being able to pull off the fake exam. The realisation that we were attempting to fool 220 students finally sank in. I was hoping that Dr.Ranjit and Dr.Hera will fool them. Being in the exam hall without actually having to answer a paper was fun. The looks on the junior's faces were priceless! They looked like a bunch of cows led to slaughter. Mahes was really good. He played his part really well and with his impeccable British accent he really had them fooled. I wish the others could have been there to watch him. I found it really annoying that the whole SRC plus other Sem 5s piled into MPH. The juniors definetely would have smelled a rat then. What annoyed me the most was KC being there. Especially when i told him not to set foot in MPH before the exam was over! *making a mental note to slap him the next time i see him*. Meeting the seniors didnt go as well as i expected. I wanted the committee to plan what they were going to do and what they were going to say before and after the video is screened while they were waiting for the exam to finish but they hadnt done that. I was so disappointed with Fu Wen and KK..especially Fu Wen. I expected more from the president. The end result was that the "Meeting the Seniors" was a complete disaster and i dont think the juniors were too impressed with the committee. The other glitch was the OOs not knowing their group members. I was so disappointed with Kay Wei. We had to send Rahul home to print copies of the group list. I was so exhausted at the end of the day and i was left craving for "Milo shake" from Steven's corner. KK, my ever reliable driver, offered to take us there.
Friday - The day for correcting yesterday's mistakes. With 40 juniors not joining their respective groups, we had a big problem; a big budget problem. KK, Fu Wen and i went to speak to the juniors after their English Placement Test. Finally we did what we were supposed to have done yesterday. The rest of the day was spent running around IMU trying to get everything settled for Ice Breakers on monday. Another exhausting day!
Looking forward to the actuall Orientation Week starting next monday!
